Simplifying with a VitaMix Blender
We bought a VitaMix blender a few weeks ago that has simplified our lives quite a bit. I pick up my 4 year old from day care about 5:30 every day and when he gets home he wants a snack. We also have an older son at home that wants a snack about that time, and so do I. Before getting the VitaMix, I'd have to prepare 3 different snacks - 1 for the 4 year old, 1 for my older son, and 1 for myself. It was always a hassle, too, because my younger son would always argue with me about what his snack was going to be (we don't allow sweets before dinner) and my older son always had a difficult time deciding what he wanted. Since we got the VitaMix blender though, it's really easy. I just chop up a couple of carrots, peel an orange and a couple of kiwis or a banana, and toss everything into the VitaMix with some water, honey, blueberries, and ice. It tastes great, we all like it, and it only takes about 10 minutes including cleanup time. Also no time wasted arguing or debating about what to have. On top of that, it's a nice healthy snack instead of the junk we used to eat.

Less is More
I really love building and flying control line airplanes, but I haven't been able to get anything done in the past year or so. The problem is that I need to simplify. When I was a kid, I had 2 or 3 engines and at most a few kits at any one time. It was pretty easy to keep track of things. When I needed a new kit, i.e. to replace an airplane that had been crashed beyond repair, I bought one that matched one of my engines. Now things are a little more complicated. Last week while cleaning out my garage, I counted all the airplane stuff I have: over 70 kits and 26 engines. Even worse, the kits and engines don't all match up - I have many kits that won't work with any of my engines and vice versa. Also, most of the kits I have are advanced kits and a little beyond my building ability.
How did I accumulate so much stuff? It works something like this: I'll see a kit I really like and buy it. When I open it up, I decide to wait until I get more building experience so I can build it "right." It goes on the shelf, and the process is repeated with the next kit purchase. Clearly, it's time to simplify.
